TT Games is 'always looking' for ways to improve its games, and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is no different.
While discussing LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight with LEGO Fan Media, TT Games' Executive Producer Matt Ellison noted that part of the ethos of the game developer is to always be looking for ways to improve. With 35 LEGO video games under the company's belt at this point, there's a lot to draw from – but still a lot more potential to uncover.
"With each game, we're always looking at what we do and improve since the last one," Matt said.
Specifically, he went on to touch on three key areas that the LEGO Batman game developers focused on and improved for the 2026 release. Each one adds something new and different that TT Games hopes fans won't have experienced in other games, or at least not like this.
Combat: 'We want it to feel like you're Batman'

First up is combat. Batman is often associated with intense, up-close combat. Being a superhero without any powers beyond his suit, his fighting skills are an integral part of his character and something any video game needs to nail.
"The combat is something that we've really focused on in this game," Matt explained. "We wanted it to feel like you're Batman, as if you're controlling this character and you're as powerful as he is when he's facing all of these different enemies.
"The combat system we've developed in this game is completely new from what we've done before, and something that we're very excited about."
While there's no publicly available gameplay, it seems that combat will be a central part of the upcoming LEGO game. Where magic and the Force are gameplay elements in the Harry Potter and Star Wars games, it seems that combat has been thought about as deeply in the Batman title.
The world of Batman: 'A more immersive Gotham City'
World-building is vital to any LEGO game, where LEGO-fied versions of the characters can often become almost their own entities. We've seen it without LEGO Star Wars building up its own unique fanbase with its own TV show in Rebuild the Galaxy, and there's a similar level of effort seemingly going into the world-building of Gotham City too.
"We've got a new Gotham City" said Matt. "We've had Gotham City in our previous Batman games, a couple of them, but this time, it's bigger, it's better.
"There's much more to do and much more depth to it. There was a lot of effort to make sure that Gotham felt more layered than what we've had in previous ones. There's a verticality to it as well, which helps as you're traversing through."
Batman going vertical: 'Sweeping through the buildings'

That verticality carries through into travelling around Gotham City, with Matt highlighting that exploring the city has a similar level of depth available to it. As well as having vehicles to get about, the characters that you can play in the game have other ways of getting around too.
"We've got grapple guns that you can launch to different buildings and then glide around the city," he said. "That's something that is very new for us, and it changes how it feels to get around off into. Again, it makes you feel like Batman as you sweep through the buildings, which is really cool."
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is due for release in 2026, although no specific date has been given as yet.
