Two anime are leading the charge in LEGO Ideas '90s challenge

One week into the first LEGO Ideas '90s challenge, which will result in a new set, it's clear that two anime properties are popular picks.

The first of two LEGO Ideas '90s challenges have been going for over a week, inviting enthusiasts to submit models based on properties from the era made up of between 1,000 and 5,000 pieces. A second challenge for smaller builds will take place in January 2025.

The first challenge has been accepting entries for just over a week now and already, it's becoming clear that the LEGO Ideas community wants one of two anime to win. Of the 23 entries at the time of writing, eight are based on either the Dragon Ball or One Piece anime series – with five for the former and three for the latter.

Beyond the likes of Exo-Force and to an extent NINJAGO, the LEGO Group's experience with anime is limited but there's a clear demand for a set based on either One Piece or Dragon Ball in the new contest.

The latter's link to pirates and ships may cater to the LEGO Pirates crowd as well, but it's still too early in the submission period to determine whether or not this anime-centric lead will last. LEGO Ideas users have until January 6 to enter this challenge.

You can find out more about this new contest by clicking here. Two sets will come from the challenge from both phases and likely in corresponding sizes.
