More than a week on from the reveal, here's what LEGO fans have to say about the first CMF line of 2026, 71051 Animals Series 28.
LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71051 Animals Series 28 was revealed last week ahead of its release on January 1, 2026. With new parts and surprisingly tempting minifigure features galore, the community has now had several days for the dust to settle and opinions to clear on the first CMF series of 2026.
Adult collectors are left unimpressed

Judging from the noise online, long-term collectors of the CMF series were left far from impressed. Initial reactions on TikTok reveals of 71051 Animals Series 28 registered lacklustre reception, with instant parallels drawn between the January release and the CMF series from 2025.
"From Spider-Man or the F1 series, it's such a step down" commented Pau Lius below this TikTok, while another user, Astrea, wrote further down the same comment section: "My wallet is SAFE."
For some, the repetitive nature of the animal suits just isn't hitting. While we've had many one-offs along these lines in Collectible Minifigure series over the years, an entire collection of 12 might be pushing it too far.
"I’m kinda over all the animal suits gimmick," commented _jackychain over on reddit.
Yet the parts included are sparking ideas
That's not to say there's nothing to love. Even for those who aren't after these characters in particular, one thing you can typically rely on CMF series for is minifigure parts.
"Our minifigures of The Spot just got an upgrade with side leg printing," speculated ReZourceman on reddit.
"That lion head is definitely getting used with Harry Potter as Luna's Quidditch costume. Unless it already was and I missed it?" added Solesky1 on the same thread. "The frog head could definitely be reused as Marvel's Frog Man."
Whether these are hopes for official LEGO minifigures or plans to refine custom characters, picking up certain characters could upgrade your existing minifigure line-ups to no end.
Tempting to CMF newcomers
While many long-term collectors feel underwhelmed, there are always new people finding their way to LEGO releases like these – and those newcomers seem more convinced than long-running members of the community.
"I've never collected the LEGO CMF series, but this one coming on January 1 looks absolutely fantastic," said legotom on TikTok. "I need every single one of them."
