What could have been for LEGO 10337 Lamborghini Countach

LEGO Icons 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole is an impressive model but there were details considered that didn't make the cut.

LEGO designer Sven Franic recently spoke to LEGO fan media including Brick Fanatics in a roundtable interview, sharing what could have been for the LEGO Icons Lamborghini set before it launches on July 1, 2024, for LEGO Insiders, or widely on July 4 for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99.

While it's common for LEGO designers to include personal references in models they design, including initials hidden within the model and more, the designer for 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole didn't feel as strongly that it was necessary and that aligned with Lamborghini's requirements for the set.

"This was a request from the IP partner, we discussed license plates and what we would use and sometimes we use multiple choices" shared designer Sven Franic when asked about the lack of an Easter egg on the license plate. "They felt they always use what they call 'beauty plates' and they wanted that. So we complied with their wishes there, we didn't feel that strongly about it.

"I personally, avoid having my personal touches like that and models. I just think it's model first. So whatever is the best choice for that model, I think matters more than what is for me. As you know, I'm not that high of a celebrity to have my initials on a plate. But that's just my personal take."

The beauty plate in 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole is the black tile at the back of the build that features the Countach logo, instead of a license plate that would reference the designer, the set number or anything else that commonly appears in LEGO car sets.

Keeping to the back of the car, Franic was also asked about why four tyres were used on the back instead of two, or two new and wider tyre elements being created specifically for the set.

"Yeah, we did consider it, it's just that that that's getting to quite a lot of specific elements now," responded Franic. "Because we would have to create two rim elements, and then two tyres, and we're not really sure if we will have any use for such a wide tyre in the future. So we thought that there was no need but it was a consideration."

While no wider tyre elements are included in 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole, a new double-sided rim element has been created specifically for the new LEGO Icons set as you can read about in our review.

10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole launches on July 1, 2024, for LEGO Insiders, or widely on July 4 for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99.
