What we spotted in the four new LEGO Education sets

The four new LEGO Education sets won't just appeal to parents and kids, as collectors should note an unfamiliar element, rare recolours, and more.

The LEGO Group's reveal of 45200 Moon Mission Science Kit, 45201 Antarctic Animals Science Kit, 45202 Mars Mission Science Kit and 45203 Arctic Animals Science Kit may not have too much appeal to older LEGO enthusiasts who have finished their educational journey. Rest assured, there are some aspects of these four builds that you won't want to overlook.

From a new and intriguing piece to six exclusive minifigures, read on for a closer look at these four unique models, all available now.

Exclusive minifigures

The four LEGO Education sets have six exclusive minifigures between them, all using the teal and coral colour scheme that is predominant across the range. This offers a unique twist on familiar LEGO outfits, such as spacesuits or arctic exploration gear.

The larger 45202 Mars Mission Science Kit and 45203 Arctic Animals Science Kit have one exclusive minifigure each, but you can get the best of the lot through the smaller and more affordable 45200 Moon Mission Science Kit, 45201 Antarctic Animals Science Kit.

Some rare and brand-new recolours

Across the full new LEGO Education range are some interesting recolours of existing elements. Some of these recolours have appeared before, but others are entirely new and find plenty of use in aquatic and science fiction builds.

Those rare recolours are all transparent light blue versions of existing pieces, starting with the 3x3 brick curve, only otherwise found in 21062 Trevi Fountain. There's also a transparent blue Windscreen 6 x 6 x 3 Canopy Dome Half Sphere with Dual 2 Fingers, having only appeared in five other sets.

Most noteworthy are the new recolours of the Windscreen 6 x 6 x 2 Canopy and Windscreen 6 x 4 x 1 1/3 Canopy Sloped Sides, both appearing in transparent light blue for the first time ever. These pieces should be especially useful for LEGO space fans, and we can only hope that they appear on Pick a Brick in the future.

An interesting element

On top of those recolours, 45203 Arctic Animals Science Kit has a piece which is particularly interesting, and one that many fans may not immediately recognise It has four studs on top but appears to be hollow on the bottom, more loosely gripping a 2x2 stud space than standard elements.

This seems to be used in the context of 45203 Arctic Animals Science Kit to encourage enthusiasts to help the polar bear grip onto the ice. A hollow interior would make this possible, but more challenging than if it had an inner tube. It's not a new element, featured in five Education kits last year, but 45203 Arctic Animals Science Kit will be most enthusiasts' first chance to experience it.

These four new LEGO Education sets are all available now on the official online store and in select LEGO stores.
