Here's what you can’t see in LEGO Soundwave's pictures

LEGO Transformers 10358 Soundwave has been revealed in a livestream, showcasing some parts of the set that you can't see in official images.

The next release in LEGO Icons' Transformers collection has been confirmed to be 10358 Soundwave, our first-ever Decepticon. While official images detail how the build can be transformed, there's more to this model than meets the eye, much of which was covered in a special reveal livestream for the set during the week.

For those who didn't have time to tune in to the livestream on Thursday, here are a few important facts you can take away from it, showcased using images from our recent review of the next Transformers set.

Stickers and prints

It's not always easy to tell from official images which designs are stickers and which are prints. Thankfully, the livestream and our review have been able to confirm what is printed and what is not.

While there are a fair few stickers in the set, including the display plaque, some of the most important parts are printed. This includes the small Soundwave cassette tapes for Ravage and Laserbeak, as well as the deception logo on the transparent window for the chest of the larger Soundwave figure. The latter is a design for which you wouldn't want to mess up the placement.

Realistic ejection functionality

Also not showcased in the official images, but shared to much delight in the livestream is the fact that Soundwave's eject button on his shoulder remains in the LEGO Icons set, and it can be pressed to open his chest as you would expect. This is a small touch, but one that Transformers fans are sure to love come August 1.

Double-jointed knees and elbows

Unlike both 10302 Optimus Prime and 10338 Bumblebee, thanks to how they transform, 10358 Soundwave has double-jointed elbows and knees to create more poses than ever before. This is a major innovation for LEGO Transformers sets, giving Soundwave a distinct edge over the rest of the collection. Comparing it to Optimus in our review reveals just how much more 10358 Soundwave can be posed thanks to this change.

LEGO Soundwave is customisable

You might have been wondering what those additional transparent yellow one-stud slope elements were in the official images of 10358 Soundwave, and the reveal livestream confirmed that this is just one way that you can customise 10358 Soundwave. The early Transformers series depicted him with a red visor, while the toys had a yellow visor, and now you get to pick which look you prefer.

Adding to the options for customisation in 10358 Soundwave is a pair of printed tiles that can be used to quickly change the look of the small transformed Soundwave that sits on the display plaque's stand. You can change the appearance of this miniature model to depict either the transformed Ravage or Laserbeak in his chest. It's another small touch that goes a long way in the latest LEGO Transformers set.
