Here's why you'll want multiple copies of LEGO Blacktron Renegade

LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade is a must-have for classic Space fans – and you might even want to stock up on a couple of copies.

The modularity of 10355 Blacktron Renegade ties it to its original version, 1987's 6954 Renegade, and means there's a lot of flexibility in how you want to build it. That's on top of the fact that there's an official alternate build to recreate another classic ship, with the instructions available online now.

"The original version also had six modules," explained designer Jae Won Lee while speaking to LEGO YouTuber Tiago Catarino. "It's very easy to link with other modules to create smaller spaceships or new satellites."

What some builders are experimenting with, however, is what happens when you upgrade from six modules to 12. Buying two copies of 10355 Blacktron Renegade means you have a lot more options in rebuilding – as well as the opportunity to create an enormous combined build – just as sebm__ did, sharing the pictures on reddit.

Those in the comments were undoubtedly impressed, with one writing: "I did buy two of them so I could do a normal build and then the alternate builds so both can be displayed next to each other, but I may do this instead."

Some went on to joke that it's a slippery slope. After all, the more you buy, the more you can do combined builds of both the Renegade and the Alienator – and so on, and so on.

"I mean, why not just make your house out of them?" quipped MonsterUltra.

10355 Blacktron Renegade is available to buy now for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99. You can also check out our detailed review here.
