What would a second LEGO The Lord of the Rings 2025 set be?

LEGO The Lord of the Rings is rumoured to be getting two sets under the Icons banner next year, and one would do well to expand on the other.

Rumours of a new LEGO The Lord of the Rings set in 2025 have culminated recently in Instagram user a.clay.brick reporting that 10354 Bag End will manifest in April 2025. With this latest report came another notable tidbit of information – that it should be one of two LEGO The Lord of the Rings sets released next year. At the time of writing, there are no further rumours for the second set other than that it should arrive later than 10354 Bag End.

Since The Lord of the Rings' return to the LEGO portfolio, it has focused mostly on larger sets under the Icons banner but there have also been a range of LEGO The Lord of the Rings BrickHeadz. Since BrickHeadz is a separate theme from LEGO Icons, we can deduce that this rumoured second 2025 set is not another BrickHeadz or two.

That leaves many possibilities with a couple that are more likely than others. A smaller and more affordable LEGO The Lord of the Rings set after 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell and 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr may be preferable for LEGO enthusiasts. A safe bet for the LEGO Group would be another massive model, but that would break the trend of one huge location-based model per year that we've seen so far.

The rumoured name of 10354 Bag End implies that it will only cover the home of Bilbo and Frodo, focusing less on the rest of Hobbiton. For 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr, a connected LEGO Icons gift-with-purchase was released in the form of 40693 The Lord of the Rings: Fell Beast. Whether as a model to buy or as another gift-with-purchase, a smaller set to be connected or displayed alongside 10354 Bag End would work well. Should it arrive later than the rumoured Bag End build, that may rule out it being a gift-with-purchase since they tend to be offered on the first few days of a set's launch.

Another take on 9469 Gandalf Arrives would be suitable as a set relevant to a massive Bag End though a remake of the 83-piece model may be unrealistically small for a 2025 set. Instead, an expansion of this build to depict Bilbo Baggins' party as LEGO Ideas user ponurry has created would display well alongside a big Bag End.

It likely wouldn't need any new pieces but would still have decent minifigure potential for various Hobbits that we've yet to see in minifigure form, possibly repeating minifigures from the rumoured 10354 Bag End too. A smaller set depicting another new location such as Minas Tirith may not fully realise the potential of that area, but a build designed to expand on another recent set without distracting from its contents may be a more sound strategy.

This is all only speculation based on the current rumours. We may be in for a pair of big LEGO The Lord of the Rings sets next year but with any luck concerning our budgets, this second set will hopefully turn out to be another LEGO The Lord of the Rings gift-with-purchase or a more affordable model. Take all LEGO rumours with caution until an official announcement is made.

Here's what is currently rumoured and confirmed for LEGO Icons next year as it seems that we're in for a varied year.
