The LEGO Group shared updates on its efforts to both expand its global footprint, while also checking its environmental impact.
In the mid-year financial report covering the first half of 2025, the LEGO Group highlighted its progress in expanding its footprint around the world so far this year. Projects highlighted included opening a new state-of-the-art factory in Vietnam in April to support growth in the Asia-Pacific region and investing more than $1.5 billion in a new factory in Virginia, in the US.
Both of those facilities will open in 2027, while efforts were also made this year to expand on factories in Mexico and Hungary. The Virginia factory is also backed by a new Americas head office in Boston, a space for 800 employees to work. This comes as the LEGO Pick a Brick service was recently seemingly impacted by global supply chain issues due to US tariffs.

While expansion is clearly a priority for the LEGO Group in 2025 so far, with 24 new stores opened, the company also invested in environmental measures, ranging from creating more sustainable materials to use in its products to reducing reliance on virgin fossil-based materials. As part of this effort, the LEGO Group introduced rSEBS, a new, more sustainable material for selected LEGO tyres made from recycled fishing nets, ropes and engine oil. Additionally, the company plans to introduce e-methanol, a material made from mixing renewable energy and CO2 from bio-waste to create hard, rigid LEGO elements like wheel axels, connectors, and minifigure hands.
“Children and their parents rightly expect us to play our part in shaping a more sustainable future," said Niels B Christiansen. "We remain fully focused on our mission to inspire and develop children everywhere – which includes ensuring that future generations inherit a healthy planet. We are privileged to be in a strong position to deliver on this mission – investing significantly in sustainable growth now and for the future.”
