LEGO Ideas Friendly Snails remains faithful to winning fan design

The upcoming 40788 Friendly Snails GWP looks to have stuck closely to the design of the original LEGO Ideas contest winner's model.

The LEGO Ideas team today revealed 40788 Friendly Snails, a 264-piece GWP crawling into view on July 1. The set was inspired by Jagamax’s 250-piece The Autumn Snails, which was the winning design in last year’s Build the Gift with Purchase Set of Your Dreams contest.

What’s potentially most impressive about 40788 Friendly Snails is just how closely the final build matches the original fan design. As can be seen in the images in this story, both models feature two brick-built snails, one with a blue and tan printed shell and the other boasting a brown and tan version.

Also present and correct is the log that the smaller creature is crawling across, as well various flora, a red and white mushroom, a printed 1x1 bee tile and a black display base. In fact, other than a few minor colour tweaks, some swapped out eye elements and an additional 14 pieces, what we’re looking at here is an almost 1:1 recreation of Jagamax’s winning design.

That’s certainly not usually the norm when it comes to translating fan creations into finished LEGO Ideas sets. Some models go through numerous changes before becoming available, yet 40788 Friendly Snails seems to have avoided the standard approvals and production phases relatively unscathed.

You’ll be able to add 40788 Friendly Snails to your collection when the GWP becomes available with orders over £145 in the UK, $160 in the US and €160  in Europe from July 1, 2025.
