LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett Helmet vs. Jango Fett Helmet

LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett Helmet vs. Jango Fett Helmet

There's a new, yet familiar LEGO Star Wars helmet coming to shelves, and 75408 Jango Fett Helmet only improves on 75277 Boba Fett Helmet.

75408 Jango Fett Helmet has been officially revealed, and comparisons with 2020's 75277 Boba Fett Helmet are inevitable. Stacking both eras of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet collection next to each other reveals just how much has changed with the impressive range over five years.

Stacking these helmets side by side truly allows you to appreciate the difference in design techniques and further devotion to accuracy within LEGO Star Wars from the past five years. You wouldn't think the LEGO Star Wars team would have come so far, but there are undeniable improvements in this updated helmet, so much so that it's practically demanding a recoloured version to update Boba Fett's iconic helm.

Statistically, 75408 Jango Fett Helmet is slightly smaller than 75277 Boba Fett Helmet, but the two are around the same price, taking inflation into account.

With only nine pieces between them, there's not much difference when it comes to the numbers. Aside from the overall shape and general subject matter, this is where the similarities between the two end.

Brick-built helmets, five years apart

Upon first glance, the two helmets' overall shapes are undoubtedly similar, since they both depict Mandalorian helmets with a rangefinder. The closer you look, though, the more updates and differences you'll find. The shaping of the new 75408 Jango Fett Helmet is subtly different to that of 75277 Boba Fett Helmet, since the sides and rear more accurately angle outward rather than pointing down.

This update affects the front and side profiles of the new helmet compared to the 2020 set, offering more personality and accuracy while keeping the LEGO DNA distinctly present in the design through exposed studs. The LEGO designers have changed up more than just the colour scheme of the new set, and many of the differences are much less subtle than this.

A significantly cleaner visor

When you compare the iconic T-shaped visors between the two helmets, the differences start to become much more obvious. 75277 Boba Fett Helmet opted for a four-stud wide section with raised red tiles to form the vertical section of the visor. This created a notable gap between the red tiles and the red angled plates, which greatly impacted the overall appearance of the LEGO Boba Fett helmet.

Thankfully, the LEGO Star Wars designers have amended this with 75408 Jango Fett Helmet, widening the vertical portion of the visor and risking some inaccuracy to improve the look of the helmet and remove the gaps that were present before. It works well and is a much-needed improvement over the 2020 helmet

It's worth noting that the 2020 indents have also been upgraded on the front of the helmet to go deeper than before in the 2025 version, again improving the accuracy while making the most of the updated visor design.

A new and improved rangefinder

There's no doubt that the rangefinder has undergone the most significant redesign in the last five years, embracing another more accurate design in 75408 Jango Fett Helmet with an overall riskier structure. The original rangefinder in 75277 Boba Fett Helmet used a thicker assembly of plates and a hinge plate to hold the heavy end of the rangefinder in one of two positions while ensuring that it won't fall off.

This tactic has been eschewed in 75408 Jango Fett Helmet, using a bar element instead for a more accurately and thinner appearance, with an even heavier tool at the end to boot. Despite the riskier build for play, it works well on a display model where accuracy and appearance are key above all else. It's just one example of how the LEGO Star Wars design team have been able to amend aspects of the original set after five years of similar helmets and LEGO Star Wars display models.

More accurate shaping inside and out

The new helmet is better, even on the inside. With the slightly angled segments on the sides and rear, the internal column with bracket pieces from 75277 Boba Fett Helmet has been switched out for a column rife with ball joints, clips and brackets.

This ensures that the new helmet's angles can be captured accurately and securely, and it's another example of how the LEGO Star Wars team are willing to take risks, experiment and adapt to new techniques after five years of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection.

Following the impressive 75277 Boba Fett Helmet is no easy feat, but 75408 Jango Fett Helmet is nothing short of a triumph for the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection. It excellently showcases how far this collection has come since its origins, but proves that there are still plenty of innovations to explore in the future.

75408 Jango Fett Helmet launches on May 1, 2025, for £69.99 / $69.99 / €79.99, and you can take a closer look at the latest helmet by clicking here.
