LEGO The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time battle compared

The new LEGO The Legend of Zelda takes us back to the Ocarina of Time's final battle, comparing favourably to the game's mechanics and assets.

77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle is coming later this year as our second set based on the Nintendo Franchise. It's returning to the Ocarina of Time, similar to 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, but adapting a scene from much later in the game.

It's a surprisingly good adaptation of that scene in terms of appearance and recreating various mechanics. Note that we're about to be discussing spoilers for a game that's admittedly 28 years old.

With the spoiler warning out of the way, read on for an in-depth comparison of 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle to the game.

The arena

The arena in 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle appears to be sparse and ruined, accurately depicting the ruins of Ganon's Castle, where Hyrule Castle was once located. It becomes ruined as part of the first phase of the boss fight, with this new set recreating the second phase specifically.

With the fire in the background, the leaning tower and the ramp-like roof section on the ground, it's not entirely accurate to the game's arena, which appears more flat and sparse, but includes those additional details to appropriately level the scene up for a LEGO model.

Mechanics and effects

That ramp-like section in 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle and the game's boss fight is where Ganondorf bursts out of to attack Zelda and Link with his remaining power. By including this section in the build, it allows for a place to store the Ganondorf minifigure when he transforms, but also accurately portrays an iconic moment before the final battle.

That final battle is against Ganon, the raw form of evil power that Ganondorf uses. Ganon has many forms across The Legend of Zelda franchise, typically depicted as some kind of boar-like creature. In Ocarina of Time, this is in the form of a bipedal boar humanoid with flowing red hair and two giant swords.

The figure holds the swords menacingly with huge swings, all of which can be recreated with the LEGO set thanks to an impressive level of posing options in the limbs.

During the fight, you can attack Ganon with any weapons you've gathered in the game, aside from the Master Sword which is knocked out of Link's hands until the end of the battle. To pay tribute to this gameplay mechanic, the Megaton Hammer has been included inside the ruined tower. Biggoron's Sword is unfortunately nowhere to be seen.

Once the fight is finished and you have struck the final blow with the Master Sword, Zelda attacks Ganon with her clestial power, depicted as waves of energy blasting at the figure. The LEGO model effectively recreates this with some transparent elements and small dishes to replicate those waves.

Characters and minifigures

The minifigures in 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battleal Battle are a major part of the set's appeal, and they compare favourably to the in-game models. The higher-detail assets from the Ocarina of Time remake and those of the original game have both inspired the minifigures, which capture the finer aspects of the design yet simplify others.

Zelda's dress is depicted with that signature light pink shade, and the rest of the minifigure is accurate, too. Link's minifigure is identical to the one in 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, and Ganondorf's minifigure makes use of an existing armour element to increase the size of his upper body for a more intimidating frame.

The larger Ganon figure continues the accurate from the luminescent tail to the expertly-curved horns and the decorative tales forming the fabrics that adorn the body. Overall, 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle is an accurate recreation of the final battle from Ocarina of Time.

77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle launches on March 1 for £99.99 in the UK, $129.99 in the US and €119.99 in Europe, with pre-orders live right now.
