LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game has turned 20 years old and the internet has celebrated its anniversary and the impact the title has had.
On March 29, 2005, the original LEGO Star Wars video game by TT Games was released, and no one could have predicted the effect that LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game would have on pop culture, gaming, and the internet as a whole.
With many memes, dedicated fans, and those still playing the game to this day in its original or re-released forms, everyone has come together to celebrate 20 years of this iconic title.
As expected, the dedicated LEGO Videogame Museum account on X celebrated the occasion in multiple ways, including by sharing a look at an employee gift given to those who worked on the game 20 years ago. It's one of many that have been handed out over the years.
A post on Reddit organised by the museum also invited users to share their experiences with the title 20 years later.
"If you were young and played this for the first time 2 decades ago, this is just one of those games that'll stick with you for life. I really can't say enough good about it," comments LiquidLispyLizard.
"A part of it is nostalgia, yeah, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. When I get back into it every 1-2 years, that initial wave that hits you as it pans around Dex's Diner with that music is unmatched. It's one of the few things in life nowadays that instantly transports me back to being a kid again.
Whether by coincidence or as planned, a huge mod for LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga – a port of the original game – has been released on the anniversary too. The mod by linterni Gamer transforms the hub world and some of the prequel trilogy levels to cater to prequel trilogy fans, and it's a great way to celebrate the anniversary of the beloved game.
While we wait for whatever comes next from TT Games, the world of LEGO games has come a long way since the original Star Wars title, now including an upcoming party game and signs of the LEGO Group building up their in-house game development efforts.
